Frequently Asked Questions
Will my classes count toward my high school diploma?
Courses taken as Concurrent credit have a signed agreement guaranteeing credit toward your high school diploma. If you are taking course(s) as Dual Enrollment, it is not guaranteed to meet diploma requirements. You will want to consult with your high school counselor before completing enrollment.
What's the difference between Concurrent and Dual-Enrollment?
Concurrent: Courses are typically taught at the high school by one of your high school teachers. Both high school and college credit is awarded. Concurrent courses require a signed agreement between K-State and your high school.
Dual Enrollment: Courses are typically taught by K-State faculty on one of K-State's campuses or online. College credit is awarded but high school credit is not guaranteed. You should talk to your counselor before enrolling in dual enrollment courses to see if you will be able to use the coursework to meet high school diploma degree requirements.
Do I need to reapply each semester?
No. You only need to apply once as a Pre-College student. However, you must submit the Pre-College Re-Enrollment Request form each year for all courses you wish to take.
What if I plan to attend K-State as a degree-seeking student after high school?
This is great! Becoming a degree-seeking student is a different process with different requirements. You will need to log into your application portal and complete the separate undergraduate application.
Can I take more than 8 credit hours per semester?
College coursework can be rigorous. Students are limited to 8 credit hours per semester. If you wish to take more, you must be granted special permission which typically requires a meeting with K-State advising staff. Complete the Exception Request form if you desire to take more than 8 credit hours.
What if I do not meet the GPA requirement?
If you do not meet the GPA requirements for Pre-College admission, you may request an exception to the admission requirements. Complete the Exception Request form in order to begin this process. Admissions via exception is not guaranteed.
Will my college credit transfer?
K-State courses are accredited by the Higher Learning Commission. Courses generally will transfer to most institutions of higher education. Visit the transfer school's website to find specific information on their course transfer policies. If the course is one of Kansas' Seamless Systemwide Transfer courses, then it is guaranteed to transfer to all Kansas public institutions.
