Freshman Admission Holistic Review

Kansas State University is allowed to admit a certain number of students, who do not initially meet the qualified admissions standards established by the Kansas Board of Regents. For some students, additional details are needed.

Your initial decision letter found in your applicant portal will contain a link to begin the holistic review process. You will be asked to upload a personal statement while completing the form. Before starting the form, we recommend reading the rest of the information below and gathering an official email and phone number for your academic reference. Details on the information needed are listed below.

Personal Statement

You will be asked a series of short answer essay questions. You responses to these questions should explain why you feel you can be successful at Kansas State University. You should address past academic performance, as well as express a thoughtful plan regarding future academic achievement, personal growth, and the steps that you are taking to finance your education such as savings, applying for financial aid, grants, loans, or scholarships. Students should also include any other information they feel is relevant.

Academic Reference

You will be asked for the name, job title, email, and phone number of an academic reference. This should be someone who can specifically speak to your academic performance and not a coach or other extra-curricular sponsor. We recommend informing the person you list prior to completing the form and following up to confirm they submitted their reference. The high school official you list on your form will be sent a link to provide an academic reference addressing the following:

  1. Your preparedness for college-level academics at a four-year institution.
  2. Your attitude toward academics and willingness to utilize available resources.
  3. Your likelihood of succeeding at Kansas State University.
  4. Any additional information relevant to a holistic review.

The reference will be sent directly to our office.

Please submit the required items as soon as possible. There is limited availability in the student advising and mentoring programs in which we will require you to participate. For your information, general qualified admission requirements are established by Kansas law. Review detailed requirements for incoming freshman. An updated GPA or test score would also be relevant to this review.

Transcripts

While not required, we recommend you also have your high school counseling office or the Registrar at any college where you are attempting or have completed college credits send a transcript to Kansas State University if you have not already done so.
