English proficiency
English proficiency is not required for admission to Kansas State University. However, you must meet the English Proficiency Standards before you enroll in courses.
Choose the option that best works for you.
Test online
We recommend taking our online WildCAT English Test before arriving to K-State!
If you prefer, you can take the English Proficiency Test (EPT) once you get to campus by contacting the English Language Program at elp@k-state.edu. Depending upon your scores and admission status, you will be placed in full-time intensive English classes, part-time English and academic classes, or full-time academic classes.
Pre-place in English classes
Submit qualifying TOEFL, IELTS, or DET scores and know your study plan for the first year before you arrive.
Waive English classes
Submit qualifying test scores or transcripts before you enroll.
Students can provide official documentation of English proficiency until 12:00 p.m. (noon) of the last day of enrollment (usually a Friday) before the first day of classes. After this time, scores from the WildCAT/EPT will determine students’ placement for the current semester. Any evidence of English proficiency provided after this time will be used for placement the following semester.
